The Wolf Tooth Elliptical Direct Mount Chainring for SRAM 8-Bolt is designed to replace your existing chainring and spider, the direct mount chainring for SRAM AXS cranksets or the direct mount chainring for cranksets using the 8-bolt mounting standard.

Since it uses Wolf Tooth's Drop-Stop B tooth profile, which is narrower than the classic A profile, it will work with all 9, 10 and 11 speed chains as well as 12 speed SRAM Eagle, Campagnolo®, KMC and SRAM Flattop AXS Chains.

It is 6mm offset from the mounting surface, with a chainline of 45mm from the centre of the bike, making this chainring best suited for inclusion in SRAM direct mount cranksets with road cranks. As with all chain rings with the Drop-Stop tooth profile, it will be long lived, thanks to low friction and a wide contact area, and will shed mud with ease.

Its use of PowerTrac EllipticalTM technology ensures that it will engage the chain well at the most powerful point of your downstroke, then do the same at the weakest point of the pedal stoke, maximising its efficiency. For that reason, a PowerTrac EllipticalTM ring matches the power of the next biggest circular ring on both parts of the stroke.

Even better, thanks to the fact that Wolf Tooth's PTE rings are 10% less ovalised than equivalent chainrings from other brands, with less aggressive timing, your pedal stroke will feel as smooth as with a round chain ring. This ensures even power transfer, leading to improved traction on technical climbs.

PowerTrac

Wolf Tooth’s PowerTrac design, as the name indicates, is driven by a concern for power and traction – and crucially for you, premised on a wealth of knowledge from precision engineers who also love to ride bikes.

A growing number of riders are converting to elliptical chainrings on 1x setups, for the simple reason that they have been demonstrated to improve ride quality.

The idea behind elliptical chainrings can be summarised as follows: biomechanical power output varies throughout a pedal stroke. Positions where power is higher have a larger diameter section of chainring, and thus a greater engagement area, which translates into greater forward propulsion. At positions where biomechanical power is lower, a smaller chainring diameter means greater efficiency in rotation. Overall, what this means for you is maximised power output throughout each pedal stroke.

Wolf Tooth notes that elliptical rings also mean steadier torque on the rear wheel, as there is less spinning on the downstroke and easier rotation as a result. Steadier torque on the rear wheel gives better traction and sustained momentum – great on tough climbs and when riding on loose terrain.

If you’re a discerning cyclist, looking to invest in a premium grade chainring that will outlast its competitors and function perfectly on a 1x setup, this is the only way to go.

Compatibility:

  • Designed to replace your existing chainring and spider or fit SRAM AXS cranksets/cranksets using the 8-bolt mounting standard
