Tacx

Innovative, high quality products that inspire you to push your limits

Who are we

Tacx started out in 1957 as a simple bicycle shop and has since grown into an innovative company with an immense passion for the sport of cycling. Founder Koos Tacx, together with his family and staff, has turned the name Tacx into a leading global brand that stands for quality. Tacx trainers are used by the world’s best professional teams and have now become an indispensable training companion for many professionals, amateurs, recreational cyclists and athletes.

A company with drive

Tacx has earned a central position in the world of cycling and knows when and where needs arise and what solutions are required. Based on that insight, the company works on innovations that will be fully developed and ready for production whenever cyclists arrive at the next stage. At Tacx, the passion for the sport is the key to a successful business. The drive to keep on innovating is typical of the company. Whoever you speak to at Tacx, they are all passionate about the sport of cycling and about Tacx products. It is one big closely knit team, with an infectious drive for quality and innovation.

Produce everything in-house

The company’s main strength lies in the fact that practically everything is manufactured in-house. But the drive to constantly innovate and improve is particularly embedded in the family’s DNA. Innovation runs through the Tacx’ veins. Ideas for new products can be produced, tested and perfected at high speed. This means that everything is kept under the company’s own wings, which is how it has become and remains the market leader. From designing to making moulds, as well as the actual production, they all happen in-house. The lines of communication are short, enabling swift adaptability to developments.

A new product begins with a design on the drawing board and prototypes that are made with 3D-prints. As soon as the models have been approved, production can commence. Steel components are welded by robots, synthetic components are made with the help of injection moulding machines and all components are combined on an automated assembly line to make up the end product.

Many manufacturers have their moulds made by external companies, but Tacx produces their own. A costly process, because the creation of a mould is precision work. That’s the reason why the design process has to be faultless before a mould can be used for production. Tacx produces many dozens of moulds each year. The interactive Bushido Smart trainer, for instance, required 50 separate moulds.

Creating opportunities, creating possibilities

In the sport of cycling, cyclists create opportunities and make the impossible possible. As soon as the Tacx people spot an opportunity, they create possibilities. Around the year 2000, Tacx linked computer electronics to cycle trainers for the first time. A whole new way of training was born. Not only was information such as speed, power, cadence and heart rate displayed on screen, you could also use the computer to cycle in virtual worlds and race online against opponents from across the globe. Training with Tacx became exhilarating.

Ready for the future

The world is changing, technologies are developing rapidly. Once again, Tacx is able to respond to these developments in a surprising way. In 2015, Tacx launched its range of Smart trainers which communicate via ANT+ and Bluetooth and can therefore be linked to any device. In 2016, we will be taking this to the next level with the NEO Smart, the first genuine direct drive, and with the implementation of the ANT+ FE-C open protocol, which will allow third-party software to control our Smart trainers. What began as a small bicycle shop has grown into a company with more than 100 employees that sells products in more than 80 countries.
