Pivot Cycles comes from the legendary Chris Cocalis – one of the most respected figures in the bicycle industry. He is a self-confessed perfectionist when it comes to design Pivot bikes, and it shows in both the build quality and the way that they ride. Collaborating with suspension guru Dave Weagle has enabled Chris and the Pivot team to develop a bike that is, in his own words, “the next level”.
Anyone looking for the ultimate enduro machine can’t go wrong with the Pivot Firebird. The latest iteration, the Pivot Firebird 29, embraces the popular big wheel sizing and incorporates it into a platform that is as close to a full-on downhill bike as possible, while retaining the ability to go up hills as well. Despite the larger wheels, the Firebird 29 still packs 162mm of poppy yet supple suspension in, served through a DW Link that is found throughout Pivot’s full suspension range.
Now a mainstay in their stable, the Pivot Mach 6 has been recently revised to further improve the ride and is now available in both Aluminium and Carbon. Offering 160mm of front travel and 155mm of rear travel, the Mach 6 is an extremely capable Enduro/Trail bike that takes black diamond trails in its stride.
Fairly new to the line-up is the Pivot Switchblade. Designed to take wide tyres on a 27.5” rim or around a 2.4 – 2.5” tyre on a 29” rim, this mismatched travel trail slayer is capable of much more than you would first think. Another frame available in Aluminium and Carbon, the Switchblade can cope with trail features that would have other mid-travel bikes quickly out of their depth and the shorter rear travel enables quick bursts of speed at the drop of a hat. This is a bike that truly needs to be ridden to be believed.
