Mountain Bike Cassettes

At Westbrook Cycles, we stock and supply an excellent range of Mountain Bike Cassettes, suitable for all kinds of mountain bikes. A Mountain Bike Cassette is one of the most important parts of the drivetrain of your mountain bike, it’s found on your rear hub and the cassette is made up of a number of sprockets, which are sized from small to large.

Mountain Bike Cassettes will have a lot of gears - which allows the rider to navigate a wide range of terrain, up and down hills. Mountain Bike Gears have to provide the right performance to get riders up very steep climbs - which use the biggest sprocket on the cassette (lowest gear) right across to tricky descents which can be pedalled fast in the smallest sprocket. One of the biggest differences between mountain bike cassettes and road bike cassettes, is that the sprockets have bigger gaps between each sprocket.

Mountain Bike Cassettes usually have between 9-12 sprockets. There’s a number of different things which tell you that you need to replace the cassette, such as rough clunky shifts as well as chain slippage. As well as replacing through a worn out cassette, many customers also choose to upgrade to a lighter cassette to save precious weight.
