MIPS Helmets

At Westbrook Cycles, we stock and supply a great range of MIPS Mountain Bike Helmets and MIPS Road Bike Helmets. We take bike safety incredibly seriously, and as well as riding wearing MIPS helmets ourselves, we also recommend MIPS helmets to our customers - covering all cycling disciplines.

MIPS stands for Multi-Directional Impact Protection System - and was designed, developed and patented by a Swedish company. It’s a relatively simple system, which makes a huge difference in the performance of helmets and the prevention of injury.

MIPS lined helmets have been designed to allow the head to move within the helmet if you are to have an impact. This movement prevents your head banging against the inside of the helmet - which can cause damage. As the head slides within the helmet, the forces on impact is reduced - as are the risks of serious brain injury and concussion.

MIPS has two layers within the helmet which allows the head to rotate in the helmet slightly, in the case of an impact. Think of it the same way that we have a layer of protective fluid around our brain. The main benefits of MIPS is protection across the different ways in which you can fall, seen as though there are no uniform ways of falling!

The easiest way to tell if you are using or buying a MIPS helmet is to look through the product information. MIPS helmets will also have a yellow logo on both the helmet and the helmet packaging.

Across our website, you can find our complete range of MIPS helmets from the world’s leading bike helmet brands and manufacturers. Kids, womens and mens helmets are all within the range, and if you have any questions about the right MIPS helmet for you - then please get in touch and we will be more than happy to help.
