Shimano Vs Campagnolo

In our mini-series comparing the different manufacturers of bicycle components, we have covered Shimano Components VS SRAM Components. This post looks at the differences between Shimano and Campagnolo Components. These two manufacturers are some of the most instantly recognisable manufacturers, with most cyclists having heard of the two brands during their cycling career, whether that’s professional or recreational!

Shimano Vs Campagnolo Differences

The first distinction between the two companies is quite big - Shimano produces bike components for mountain, gravel, and road bikes across all budgets. Campagnolo only manufacture parts for road bikes, triathlon bikes and gravel bikes. In simple terms, Campagnolo focuses on manufacturing premium bike components across only a few disciplines.

It’s important, at this stage, to understand that both Shimano and Campagnolo make excellent products; it’s just that Shimano creates a lot more diverse component range, including mountain bikes and BMX components, whereas Campagnolo concentrates on a more limited range.

What brand you choose will largely depend on your budget and the type of bike you are riding - if you are cycling on a budget, Shimano will make sense for you to use almost all of the time.

Is Campagnolo Worth it?

Campagnolo is positioned as one of the world's most premium bicycle component manufacturers. All of their components are built with the highest quality materials - even their entry-level components are incredibly high quality. Many of their components are also lighter than components from other brands.

Can You Use Campagnolo With Shimano?

This depends! Shimano cassettes do not usually work with Freewheel hubs. Campagnolo cassettes are also not compatible with Shimano Derailleurs. Campagnolo wheels are compatible with both Shimano and SRAM components as long as they have a compatible freehub body.

Campagnolo VS Shimano Warranty

Two years warranty is standard with Shimano products, and there are also three years of warranty on certain product lines. Campagnolo provides three years of warranty from the date of purchase across the full range.
