The New Orbea Occam LT And Occam SL

The Orbea Occam range has been a mainstay among trail riders for some time, offering a blend of innovation, performance, and versatility that's hard to match. The higher-end bikes in this range are known for their carbon Monocoque Race frames, which combines high tensile and modulus fibers for outstanding durability. The frame design includes a comprehensive pre-molding process, ensuring maximum compaction with minimal material use. Additionally, the Occam features trail-optimized geometry, allowing riders to choose between 140mm or 150mm forks, and a lower bottom bracket for easy cornering.

Adding to its legacy, Orbea has recently released two new versions of this iconic bike: the Occam LT and the Occam SL. The Occam LT is notable for its enhanced descending performance, suitable for long backcountry rides, occasional enduro races, or leisurely after-work laps. It's been compared to models like the Specialized Stumpjumper EVO, owing to similar geometry numbers and riding comfort. The Occam SL, on the other hand, retains the essence of the series but with refinements that might appeal to different riding preferences.

Before delving too deeply into the specifics of these new models, it's clear that Orbea continues to push the envelope in mountain bike design, ensuring that the Occam range remains a top choice for trail enthusiasts.

Orbea Occam SL

The new Orbea Occam SL is a trail mountain bike designed for speed and agility, featuring a balanced 140mm travel front and rear, and exclusively 29" wheels. This bike is an evolution of the Occam range, positioned as a racier option, maintaining the Occam's recognizable silhouette but with updated geometry. It has a 65.5-degree head angle and a reach that has grown by 25mm across all sizes compared to its predecessor. The Occam SL also features a shock tune aimed to feel like a Float X but without the piggyback, offering more progression and anti-squat while having slightly less anti-rise.

Key features of the Orbea Occam SL include a remote Squidlock lockout, smooth and direct lockout action through the Inside Line, and a new Steep n Deep dropper insertion, allowing a 230mm drop if required. This feature also provides flexibility in choosing bike size for either more play or stability. Additionally, it has integrated storage solutions like the LockR downtube storage and a 6mm tool mounted in the rear axle.

The Orbea Occam SL's geometry and design make it suitable for riders who appreciate a bike that's efficient and light, reactive and fast when pedaling, and fun and capable when going downhill.

Orbea Occam LT

The new Orbea Occam LT is a trail mountain bike that stands out for its aggressive descending capabilities and adjustable geometry. This model is part of the Orbea Occam range and is designed for riders who seek stability and confidence on descents without compromising climbing efficiency and comfort. The Orbea Occam LT is equipped with a 150mm travel rear end and a 160mm fork, enhancing its downhill prowess.

One of the key features of the Occam LT is its alloy shock extender with a unique QuickFlip Chip. This innovative design allows users to quickly adjust the bike's geometry between two positions using a simple half-turn of an allen key bolt. This system is straightforward and allows for on-the-fly adjustments to tailor the bike's handling to different trails. The "Low" and "Lower" settings differ by an 8mm bottom bracket height and 0.5-degree head tube angle, providing versatility in handling.

The Orbea Occam LT is recommended for riders who are more aggressive and seek a capable trail bike for rough and technical terrain, especially for those who want to push the limits on descents.
