Enduro Mountain Bike FAQ

What are Enduro Bikes good for?

Enduro Bikes are long travel bikes which have been designed to maximise performance on downhill trails, whilst also retaining a decent ability to be pedalled back up the trails. Although enduro bikes are designed for climbing and ascents, they are not as efficient as compared to XC bikes.

Are Enduro MTB good for trails?

Yes! Enduro Mountain Bikes are great for trails - they allow the rider to attack a range of trails as quickly as possible. The long travel suspension found on enduro mountain bikes are good for all kinds of obstacles, including jumps on downhill trails. Typically, enduro mountain bikes now have 160mm-180mm of travel on both their suspension forks and their shocks. They can feel as good to ride as downhill bikes on trails, but in some sections of a trail, do require a little bit more thought on choosing and selecting the right line.

Can you get an Electric Enduro MTB?

There is an electric mountain bike for almost any requirement, and there’s a range of electric enduro mountain bikes available. These electric enduro MTB have long travel, and are more than up to riding down any trails you come across, an added bonus of the electric motor they have - is that they make light work of the uphill sections, allowing you to get back on the trails quicker and more efficiently.

Can Enduro Bikes go uphill?

Enduro bikes are better at going downhill than uphill, but they manage to do a good job of both. The weight of an enduro bike plays an important part in it’s uphill performance, so for those looking for good ascending performance from their Enduro mountain bike - carbon fibre and lightweight alloy frames are a must.

Do you need a full face helmet for Enduro MTB?

Regardless of the bike that you are riding, if you are riding downhill trails and sections - then a full face helmet provides important protection for the face, not only in the case of an impact - but also in the case of a strike from a bush or low hanging branch. A full face helmet protects the head, alongside the jaw, teeth and face. More protection is gained when a full face helmet is used with goggles. If you ride your enduro cross country a lot, it may be that a full face helmet is too warm.

Can you jump on an Enduro MTB?

Yes! Enduro Bikes jump best on trails where speed is built up - an enduro mountain bike would not jump well on dirt jumps - as they lose energy during steep take offs. Enduro bikes are the do it all machine, and their long travel means they can handle trail jumps, drop offs and obstacles with ease.

Are Enduro Bikes good for long rides?

Although an enduro bike will do a pretty good job of riding across varied terrain, enduro bikes are more designed for downhill trail use - whilst being able to get you back up to the top of the trails again. These bikes will be hard work to ride cross country, so if it’s dedicated XC performance you are after, then a XC MTB remains the best choice.

Is 27.5 or 29 better for Enduro?

Downhill and enduro riding favours 27.5 wheels. This wheel size turns better, making it easier for riders to change momentum quickly - ideally suited for the twists and turns of enduro riding.
