Cyclescheme At Westbrook Cycles

Westbrook Cycles has been a supporter of the government cycle to work scheme since it's inception. The rules have changed slightly over the years, but the premise behind this program has remained the same. It is intended to allow people to acquire a bicycle or e-bike to commute to work on cheaper, by obtaining it through a salary sacrifice. Here, we'll look at how the schemes work, and one of the largest cycle to work scheme providers; Cyclescheme.co.uk.

Cycle To Work Scheme Explained

The Govt cycle to work scheme was introduced in the UK in 1999 as part of an initiative to encourage commuters to move toward greener forms of transport. This also had the added benefits of allowing commuters to excersise on their way into work, and allows them to save money on fuel.

The scheme works by allowing an employer to purchase a bike, tax free, and hire it to the employee. The employee then pays for the bike in weekly or monthly installments through a salary sacrifice arrangement. At the end of the initial 12 month agreement, the employee can then pay an ownership fee to own the bike, give the bike back, or continue to hire it for another 12 month period.

Cyclescheme

There are a number of providers for the cycle to work schemes, the largest of which is the aptly named, Cyclescheme. Cyclescheme was originally founded in 2005 by two bike shop owners in Bath. They are one of the longest running cycle to work scheme providers and as such, has a huge dealer base to choose from. Westbrook Cycles have been partnered with Cyclescheme for many years and have helped to provide countless commuters with a cheaper, greener way to commute to work.
