Cube Reaction Hybrid Pro 800 Spotlight

The Cube Reaction Hybrid is an electric hardtail mountain bike range that offers a great balance of value for money against performance. The range is aimed at entry level, giving new riders a chance to ride a high-quality hardtail eBike, without having to take out a second mortgage. The usage of the word “hybrid” here can be a bit misleading as it doesn’t refer to a hybrid or urban bike, here the usage just means “Cube Reaction eBike”. In Cube’s nomenclature, “hybrid” refers to the fact that there are two sources of power; the pedalling power applied by the rider and the electric assistance offered by the Bosch ebike motor and battery.

Although the whole Reaction Hybrid range is excellent, here we’re going to take a closer look at one of our favourite models, the Cube Reaction Hybrid Pro 800 2025.

Frame And Battery

The Cube Reaction Hybrid Pro 800 has a lightweight but strong frame made from Cube’s Superlite Aluminium. The Bosch eBike battery is contained completely within the frame, giving a sleek, modern look to the bike, and protecting the battery from damage and the elements. The 800 in the title refers to the battery’s capacity, 800Wh, which is easily enough to do a full days riding without the worry of running out of charge. Another benefit of housing the battery inside the frame instead of on top like older models, is that it helps to keep the centre of gravity of this Cube Reaction electric bike low, and the weight evenly balanced, leading to a better handling bike.

Motor System

At the heart of the Cube Reaction Hybrid Pro 800 is the Bosch Performance Line CX eBike motor which delivers up to 85Nm of torque. Power is delivered smoothly and naturally, without the jolting that can sometimes occur as assistance kicks in on some other ebike systems. As mentioned previously, the 800Wh battery is easily big enough to power this Bosch eBike for long rides, and if riders do wish to go even further, the system is fully compatible with the Bosch Powermore 250 range extender.

Drivetrain And Braking

The drivetrain on the Cube Reaction Hybrid Pro 800 is a mixture of Shimano XT and Deore components, which provides an excellent balance of value for money and performance. The Shimano XT derailleur provides crisp, precise shifting while the Deore shifters and cassette help to keep the cost down without sacrificing performance. The 10-51t cassette provides a wide range of gears, which given that this is a hardtail eBike, will mean that you are never going to find yourself in a situation where you are scrabbling for an extra gear.

Stopping power is again catered for by Shimano in the form of their BR-MT200 hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm rotors. This should be enough stopping power for most people, but for riders that want to take this Cube Reaction eBike down some steeper trails, you may want to look at upgrading to larger rotors or 4 pot brake calipers.

Suspension And Tyres

With this being a hardtail eBike, there isn’t any rear suspension so all of the trail smoothing ability comes from the SR Suntour forks. These provide 120mm of travel which is perfect for riding anything between urban terrain where the forks can take out bumps and potholes in the roads, to some light trail riding and singletrack descents.

Rubber comes in the form of Schwalbe’s Smart Sam tyres in a 2.6” size, which helps improve control and comfort. They are mounted on tubeless ready rims, so achieving a tubeless tyre setup is as easy as fitting a tubeless valve to each rim and filling the tyre with some tubeless sealant.

Comparison to the Cube Reaction Hybrid Pro 750

Although not a direct successor, the 800 model can be compared to the outgoing Cube Reaction Hybrid Pro 750. The first obvious difference here is that the newer model has the higher capacity 800Wh battery, leading to longer battery life and ride times. The main other differences are in spec levels, with Cube making changes to allow the Reaction Hybrid Pro 800 to be sold at a more affordable price.

Conclusion

The Cube Reaction Hybrid Pro 800 2025 represents incredible value for money, bundling a Bosch eBike motor and 800Wh battery, along with Shimano XT componentry, and a lightweight Aluminium frame into a package that has an RRP of just £2799. This is an electric hardtail mountain bike that is ready to take on anything from the daily commute to some real mountain bike trails right out of the box, and provides enough power to do it all day.
