Are Exposure Bike Lights Good?

You should always run at least two lights on your bike whilst riding in low light and at night - there should be a front facing light & rear facing light - allowing you to both see the road ahead of you, and ensure that other road users can see you. As with everything in the world of cycling - there’s more choice than ever before, with bike lights available to suit all budgets. One of the best cycling light brands on the market is Exposure Lights - which manufacture a fantastic range of bike lights, which are both designed and manufactured right here in the UK.

Exposure is one of the best bike light brands, with plenty of options to choose from - ranging from small & great value lights for a commuter bike, right across to mega bright mountain bike lights designed for illuminating the most challenging of trails. In this post, we look at some of the fantastic technologies used across the Exposure range.

SYNC Connectivity

Most things in our lives now are classed as smart, ranging from our heating at home to smartphone connectivity in our cars - Exposure lights are no different, available on some models is SYNC which allows a number of lights to be controlled via bluetooth, with apps available for both iOS and android devices. The technology available with an Exposure light gets more impressive though…

Reflex++

Reflex ++ is one of the most impressive systems we have seen and used when it comes to bike lights - this program automatically adjusts the lights provided on the bike, when the bike is being ridden hard and fast, dimming the lights when an easier section of a ride is being completed. This not only allows you to see the furthest when you need it the most, but also allows you the battery life of the light to be optimised, so you do not waste power when you need it. Light levels are adjusted via an inbuilt accelerometer, gyroscope and thermistor which is constantly analysing the ride and the data provided.

Buttonless Control

When riding busy trails - it’s often a pain to find the button on your bike light to adjust light levels - some Exposure Bike Lights allow you to simply tap the bike light, or the helmet it is mounted to - to change light levels.

Battery Level Indicator

Using the traffic light system of red, amber & green to display battery levels - checking on battery levels if quick & easy.

Thermal Management

As the LED lights within the lights go beyond maximum temperature - the power will automatically be reduced to the light until they cool to the right levels. This allows for the best possible light output, alongside battery saving.

Responsive Rear Lighting

Reakt technology allows rear lights to dim when they are in well lit areas - such as a street light lit road, and increase brightness in darker areas, such as a dark country lane. This is done automatically, with no user input required! This technology also increases the brightness of the light when under braking, again - done automatically!

Daylight Running Lights

It’s always a good idea wherever possible to use bike lights during the day, especially on the roads - exposure lights use Day Bright technology to provide a regular pool of light, which is visible from 1000 metres away, even during bright days - helping you get noticed & stay as safe as possible.

Road Light Patterns

The Road Specific Beam from Exposure imitates the technology found in car headlights - there’s a flat beam for around the bike, and a spot beam for the illuminating the road ahead. This spot beam can also be dipped for oncoming traffic, via a handlebar switch.

Peloton Mode

We find this mode the most impressive out of the lot - this allows the light to automatically dim down when the light detects there is the beam of a rider behind - if you drop to the back of the pack as the last rider in the Peloton, then the light automatically increases brightness levels.

OSD Display

OSD is an LED Panel which provides all of the information you would ever need, ranging from which mode the light is in, across the remaining battery life displayed in hours and minutes.
