2025 Cannondale Moterra Review
The Cannondale Moterra has long enjoyed a reputation as a versatile workhorse built for whatever terrain and riding conditions you can throw at it. As with many electric mountain bikes in 2025, the updates to the Moterra have taken the performance and riding experience of this bike to new heights, with innovative new technologies and designs. As well as all of the upgrades that we will discuss, 2025 marks the year in which a new Moterra has been launched, the Moterra LT - which we will also look at in further detail.
Cannondale Moterra 2025 Features
There’s the usual host of upgrades for all moterra models this year, both Moterra models have new Bosch Performance Line CX Motors with different battery options, either 600Wh of 800Wh. The carbon frames used have become lighter, shedding 1 kg in weight compared to the outgoing model. There have also been a raft of suspension updates and improvements, which improve braking performance and suspension response on rougher terrain.
There are two models to choose from, the ‘standard’ Moterra, which is perfect for those looking to hit the Moterra's traditional sweet spot - an e-mtb that can do it all, and then there’s the new Moterra LT - designed for bigger terrain, bigger drops and more aggressive riding.
The Moterra Standard Model
The standard Moterra is the quintessential all-rounder for trail enthusiasts as it has been in years gone by. This bike runs on 29-inch wheels front and rear of the bike, and like it’s predecessor, it offers ultimate stability and confidence-inspiring riding. The suspension on this model features 160mm of travel at the front, and 150mm on the rear - the frame on which this suspension sits uses Cannondale's Proportional Response Design, which ensures custom geometry and comfort across every size.
This model is well balanced. It has a 64.4 degree head tube angle and a 77.7 degree seat tube angle, making it comfortable and well-controlled on a range of ascents and descents. Interestingly, this bike comes with a kickstand mount as standard, which is a functional touch. While this is not a priority for most riders, it certainly helps when out for long days on the bike and with the compulsory cafe stops.
The Moterra LT
The Moterra LT represents a step change for the Moterra model. This is no longer a bike designed to do it all—this is an electric mountain bike specifically designed for the biggest and most adrenaline-pumping descents and big hits. The Moterra LT has what is known as a Mullet wheel setup, with a 29-inch front wheel and 650b at the rear wheel. This mullet design provides enhanced manoeuvrability and a more playful feel out on the trails.
While the LT's motor and battery are the same as those of the standard Moterra, the suspension is increased, with 170mm of travel at the front and 165mm at the rear. This bike is at home in rock gardens and tackling big drops. Maintaining the same motor and battery means that this bike doesn't suffer on ascents.
Cannondale Moterra Proportional Response Design
The 2025 Moterra is the first Moterra to benefit from Cannondale’s Proportional Response Design. This is a standout feature from Cannondale, where many bike brands take a one size fits all approach to frames, suspension and geometry - Cannondale tailor makes and tunes the geometry and kinematics of the suspension and geometry to each frame size, meaning that no matter which size Moterra that you ride, you can expect a finely tuned balanced ride.
Should you buy the 2025 Moterra?
The Cannondale Moterra is suited for a variety of riders, thanks to the two models that we have covered today, The standard Moterra is ideal for riders looking for the do-it-all performance that is traditionally associated with the Moterra, whilst the LT model is perfect for riders who want to tackle gnarlier terrain, requiring bigger suspension travel. The bike is of excellent design and quality, with prices starting at £4,950 and going up to £8,950 depending on specification. These prices put the Moterra into the higher end of the electric mountain bike market, but this bike does represent a solid investment, with a solid design, cutting-edge technology and most importantly, true all mountain capability and versatility.
