The performance comes from the wax on these chains becoming harder - forming almost a film that repels dirt, grime and grit - this has the added bonus of not requiring degreasing during chain cleaning. Reapplication is a simple wipe-and-re-wax, and waxed bike chains do not stain bags or hands during transport or maintenance either.
