Riding a gravel bike requires a versatile ‘do it all approach’ which can see a gravel bike and it’s rider transition from gravel roads and off road riding conditions, onto long stretches of riding on smoother road surfaces and tarmac.

This means that gravel bikes need a stem length which provides balance between being able to rapidly maneuver the bike, alongside enough stability for high speed riding. Most gravel riders opt for a stem length of between 70mm and 90mm - making the bike work for them on both descents and ascents.

Shorter stems also allow for quicker steering, and better weight distribution on the bike - whilst keeping you in a more upright and comfortable position on the bike.
