The Wheel Rim is one of the most important components of any bike, be that a mountain bike, BMX or road bike. The rim is the piece of aluminum or carbon fibre, shaped in a hoop which your tyre is attached to. The rim is a key piece of safety equipment, and alongside being responsible for your bike staying upright, the rim also plays an important part in the speed which your bike carries, as well as it’s resilience against bumps and impacts off road.

Not surprisingly, there’s a raft of differences between road bike wheels and rims and mountain bike rims and wheels. Road bikes perform best on stiff and lightweight rims which reduce the rotational weight of the bike - helping you achieve higher speeds for less pedalling. Mountain Bike wheels and rims, especially those used for downhill mountain biking are wider and stronger than road bike rims - and they have been designed to take a lot of punishment without buckling.

As well as supplying these wheels and rims to riders who have broken their existing set of wheels - we also supply rims and wheels to customers who are looking to upgrade their existing wheels. Upgrading these wheels is a great place to start for most cyclists, with improvements coming from reductions in weight, increase in aerodynamic performance and improvement in the handling and speed of the bike through higher quality hub bearings.

At Westbrook Cycles, we stock and supply a full range of wheels and rims - from brands who we know and trust to design and manufacture the very best rims and wheels. Brands include DT Swiss, Enve and Praxis Works.

You can view the full range above, and as always - if you have any questions about the collection, please do get in touch and we will be more than happy to answer any questions that you may have.
