The Colnago V5Rs is the latest offering in the prestigious Italian brand’s V series lineup, replacing the acclaimed V4Rs. The new model builds on the design and engineering lessons learned from the established Colnago V4Rs and further pushes the boundaries, improving the ride while reducing the weight and improving aerodynamics.

This reimagined Carbon road bike has a refined profile has allowed a 13% reduction in frontal area for the V5Rs over its predecessor, which translates to a 9 Watt saving at 50 kph. Subtle changes to the geometry have also been made to better accommodate modern riding positions, enhancing comfort and efficiency.

As with many Carbon road bikes, the frame is very lightweight, without having to sacrifice strength. The Colnago V5Rs tips the scales at just 685 grams for an unpainted frame, making it much lighter than many of its aero road bike competitors. This weight saving is achieved by using a new carbon fibre layup and manufacturing techniques, along with the introduction of a BSA bottom bracket.

Of course, being lightweight isn’t the most important factor of a road bike, it also has to ride well. The Colnago V5Rs bike has all of the ride characteristics that Colnago customers have come to expect from Colnago bikes – Stiff yet compliant, and ultra responsive. The V5Rs is also versatile – it is aerodynamic, but not just an aero road bike, it is also capable of those long days in the saddle, or a hilly ride littered with climbs and descents.

There was no need to go back to the drawing board with this road bike, as there was already an excellent starting point with the Colnago V4Rs. Instead, the V5Rs takes all of its predecessor’s strong points and solidifies them, while building on areas that could be improved, making it lighter, stiffer and more aerodynamic.
