Although most new bikes are not equipped with a kickstand as standard equipment - many cyclists choose to purchase an aftermarket kickstand to modify their bike. Kickstands are useful additions, especially for those riding commuter bikes - or those riding bikes long distance, especially when such bikes are loaded down with panniers and luggage.

Although most mountain bikers and road cyclists argue that the benefit of a kickstand is not worth it, with the extra weight on the bike being undesirable - commuters and those touring on bikes would say that a kickstand is most definitely worth it especially when a bike is used to carry luggage and extra weight.
