The ENVE SES 7.8 Wheelset is ENVE's fastest aero wheelset. The rim brake specific wheelset is perfect for experienced triathletes and road racers seeking maximum aero performance, stability and stopping power.

Designed by aerodynamicist Simon Smart and utilising in-frame aero development at the Mercedes AMG Petronas wind tunnel, the SES 7.8 brings together dissimilar front and rear rim depths, widths and sidewall curvatures. This combination optimises the aero efficiency of the wheels and bike as a whole, giving blistering real-world speed and outstanding crosswind stability.

Rims

Like all ENVE SES wheels, the SES 7.8 gets its name from its rim depths - 71mm front and 78mm rear. The wider front rim shape features the best compromise between steering stability and drag reduction when taking into account the relatively clean oncoming flow of air. The rear sees a more turbulent flow and larger frame interaction, negating stability concerns and allowing for a narrower wheel that improves overall airflow attachment for reduced drag.

For the rim brake rider looking for uncompromised braking performance, there's nothing better than ENVE's full carbon moulded brake track. This textured surface with high temperature resistance achieves exceptional stopping power and equal performance in wet and dry conditions. Braking force at the levers is also decreased by 30% compared to the previous generation brake track, allowing you to brake late with confidence through sweeping bends.

The clincher version of the SES 7.8 also utilises advances in road tyre and frame technologies to add user-friendly tubeless compatibility optimised for 25mm tyres. This gives real-world gains in rolling resistance, comfort, traction and reduced chances of pinch punctures.

Industry leaders in carbon fibre, every ENVE rim is handmade from raw uni-directional carbon at ENVE's headquarters in Utah, USA. The bespoke construction process utilises rim-specific carbon laminates, moulded spoke holes, removable bladders, and a gorgeous paint-free finish to reduce weight while maintaining strength, stiffness and allowing the beautiful handmade quality to shine through.

Hubs

The ENVE Alloy Road Hub blends a high-strength machined hub shell with premium components to deliver exceptional performance and virtually no maintenance.

Taking cues from ENVE's award-winning carbon hub design this rim-brake specific alloy hub has been five years in development to ensure a superior ride experience and low weights of just 100g front and 252g rear. Made entirely in ENVE's Utah headquarters, the hub shell is machined from a forged billet with geometry designed to create a responsive and optimally stiff wheel.

ENVE has chosen a paired spoke hole setup in the hub flange, which allows more material to be removed, reducing weight. The design also improves bracing angles, enhancing drive stiffness, efficiency and ride feel for more confidence-inspiring accelerating and cornering.

The hub's axles have also been designed from the ground-up by ENVE and feature the brand's pioneering Perfect Preload system. By positioning a calibrated wave washer between the bearing and a snap ring installed on the axle, bearing pre-load is consistently optimised. This eliminates bearing play and the need to adjust pre-load yourself, reducing premature wear.

Also increasing reliability are the custom, premium stainless steel bearings and races, which outperformed ceramic bearings in ENVE's lab tests and are ideal for British riding conditions. These long-life components are enhanced by full-contact bearing seals on outboard bearing faces and non-contact seals on internal faces to improve rolling efficiency. All this means the hubs roll with utter smoothness from day one and maintain their performance for thousands of miles without the need for servicing. This makes the ENVE Alloy Road Hub virtually maintenance free.

The proprietary freehub body is machined from strong 7075 alloy and anodised to reduce cog bite. ENVE has created a 40-tooth, nine-degree ratchet design with a single spring that gives exceptional drive response under power. A removable rubber gasket also changes the tone of the freehub when freewheeling.

The freehub body can be swapped from Shimano to Campagnolo or SRAM XD-R versions without the need for tools or re-dishing the wheel.
