Brooks Slender Leather Grips feature vegetable tanned leather and cork tape, and are designed to offer an alternative performance option for the user, while maintaining the standard for sustainability set by the Plump Grips, allowing the user to replace worn parts if necessary. The design incorporates an aluminium shell around which the bar tape is wrapped in the manner of traditional handlebar tape. The leather is then held in place by aluminium and steel clamps which can be removed in the event that the tape requires replacement. These ladies saddles are manufactured with traditional chromium plated steel rails, with copper plated steel rails and titanium rails. The ladies model with titanium underpinnings is entitled Finesse. The Team Professional is a classic Brooks saddle created with the needs of the sporting cyclist in mind. This model has been in production for half a century, originating from the old B17 Competition. This saddle is a pleasingly simple design, which truly deserves the description 'timeless classic'. A true collector’s item, the B18 Lady also features the same unique loop springs -incorporated within the saddles rails - which were among the first suspension features to be patented by our predecessors. The exceedingly comfortable and ever so stylish leather grips included in the box are perfect for use on straight, riser or swept handlebar styles. Each grip is comprised of a stack of hard wearing leather discs sourced from the butt leather offcuts which are surplus to saddle top cutting. The leather washers are tightly stacked upon three lateral spokes per grip, these spokes in turn being fastened within a pair of end stops. The handsome Swift was the youngest gentleman's racing saddle in the Brooks range. It features delicately hand skived lower sides, where a thin stripe of the leather top surface is cut back, thus exposing the lighter coloured suede beneath which makes for an attractive visual accent and greater comfort when pedalling. The large copper rivets at the nose and tail are also hammered by hand, commensurate with our usual high level of attention to detail. As is the case with all of our hand manufactured saddles, the Swift proudly sports a metal nameplate at the rear, and in addition two embossed graphic details on the sides featuring the saddle name and incorporating an icon of a Swift in flight. On introduction the Swift was offered only with lightweight titanium rails. However, due to popular demand, since 2008 we also offer the Swift Chrome, with traditional steel underpinnings, finished to our usual high standards with bright polished chromium plate. The B15 Swallow is a faithful reproduction of a saddle specifically conceived with the sporting cyclist in mind, the result being a timeless design widely regarded as the precursor of all modern racing saddles. This saddle was originally patented as long ago as 1937. At that time a great many such Brooks Saddles were exported to the continent, where they were very popular amongst professional cyclists competing in the various tours and stage races. Today's Swallow still proudly bears the original patent declaration on the tensioning plate beneath the svelte leather upper. This text retains the word “deposé”, the patent application for the Swallow having initially been registered in the Paris patent office. The timeless design of the Swallow remains virtually unchanged today, our only concession to modernity being the recent introduction of a lighter model. The Swallow Titanium, features lightweight titanium rails for a significant weight reduction over the traditional Swallow Chrome, although in all other respects the Swallow models are the same as each other, and indeed exactly the same as their historical namesakes. Brooks has a deep historical association with the sporting heroes of the previous London Olympiad, aswell as a rich relationship with devotees of Long Distance Touring, during the inaugural WCR Grand Tour (www.worldcycleracing.com), a competitive circumnavigation of the Earth by bicycle. To celebrate this, Brook's has produced a limited edition B17 Select of only 2012 pieces. Featuring a design orignally by Frank Patterson, the artist and illustrator of the Brooks catalogues of the 1920's, which has been restyled for the modern day. As with all Select saddles the World traveller uses an organic leather top which is fixed to a copper rail, finsihed with hand hammered rivets. The Colt was discontinued amidst mysterious circumstances a few years ago, but still remains a common sight on roads and avenues around the globe, a testament to its aforementioned qualities. Oddly many a Colt found its home atop BMX bicycles during this time, an unusual deployment for a Brooks saddle, but certainly not inappropriate. Today the Colt appeals to a new generation already romanced by the 80's retro look, and has been re-introduced in colours that appeal to this younger, style-conscious demographic. The B17 Narrow Imperial is another variation of our time-honoured B17 design, featuring a distinctive cut-out section in the top of the leather, first conceived and registered by Brooks over a century ago. In the catalogue of J.B. Brooks & Co. dated 1890 a model called the B86 Imperial, with its unique "registered cutting", is described as "a sure preventative to all perenial pressure". Another distinctive feature of the B17 Narrow Imperial are the perforations along the lower edge of the leather sides, which are threaded together one side to the other by a lace. This can be adjusted to help maintain the saddle’s shape and provide comfort in the long term. Tying the leather lace tightly pulls the sides of the saddle closer together, conversely loosening the lace enables the saddle sides to splay slightly further apart. This sideways fine-tuning of the B17 Narrow Imperial is of course in addition to the usual fore-and-aft tensioning mechanism common to all Brooks Saddles.
