The design team for the new Thomson 31.8 stems had the toughest of goals: make a stem better than the Thomson Elite Road and Mountain Stems, already widely regarded as the best. Early tests showed the Thomson engineers that their competitors' 31.8 stems were heavier and weaker than the Thomson Elite 25.4 and 26.0 stems. As you would expect from Thomson, testing of these stems was exhaustive and the result is the X2 and X4 stems are stronger, lighter and even longer lived than the legendary Thomson Elite.
