The All New Scott Ransom

The new Scott Ransom is their latest innovation in mountain biking, emerging as a top-tier choice for both Enduro racers and park enthusiasts. This Enduro bike marks a new era in all-mountain adventure, excelling in downhill performance and inspiring confidence with its advanced design. The combination of progressive geometry and a sophisticated suspension system empowers the Scott Ransom to tackle challenges head-on.

This latest model is a product of extensive collaboration with Scott's elite Enduro World Cup racers and premier freeriders, ensuring top performance in the most demanding conditions. The bike features Scott's revolutionary integrated suspension technology, complemented by a new 6-link kinematic system. These innovations work together to deliver an unparalleled enduro MTB riding experience.

The Ransom's design includes the ability to fit both 29" and 27.5" wheels, thanks to the FlipChip technology. It features a Horst Link rear linkage and a Fox or RockShox fork, each offering 170 mm of travel, ensuring a smooth ride on varied terrains. The internal routing of cables contributes to a sleek and tidy appearance, while the design elements like the ribbed chainstay guard and chain guide significantly reduce noise.

In addition to its technical prowess, the Scott Ransom is noted for its lightweight yet strong construction. The carbon frame is engineered for maximum strength without adding unnecessary weight, optimizing stiffness and stability. This iteration sees the TwinLoc Suspension System being replaced with the RideLoc, operating only the rear shock's modes. This offers different riding modes to suit various terrains and riding styles. Whether climbing steep trails or descending rapidly, the Ransom adapts to provide optimal performance.

Scott Ransom Headset

Internal cable routing is once again a top priority on the new Scott Ransom, with all cables and hoses except the front brake being taken through the headset. This is a feature on all models from the entry point of the range, the Scott Ransom 930, which has a Syncros Alloy bar and stem, all the way up to the top of the range Scott Ransom 900 RC, with an integrated Carbon bar and stem combo.

Routing the cables through the headset in this way gives the Ransom a sleek, tidy look to the cockpit, and helps to reduce the noise that can be created by cables rattling against the handlebars or headtube of the frame.

Spacers can be easily added and removed from beneath the stem without the need to disconnect any cables or hoses, using Syncros's split spacer design.

The angle adjust headset cups fitted to all models in the Scott Ransom range allows for +-0.6° of adjustment, to perfectly dial in your ride. Again, this can be easily adjusted without needing to remove or disconnect any cables or hoses.

Syncros Matchbox Kit

The trend for a modern Enduro mountain bike is to have in-frame storage options, and the Scott Ransom 2024 range is no different. The Syncros Matchbox Kit is seamlessly integrated into the down tube of the Scott Ransom frame, offering a sleek and practical solution for carrying essential repair tools.

Included in the Matchbox kit are:

  • a spare tube
  • tyre levers
  • chain tool
  • multitool

This design is not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional, allowing for easy access and storage. It ensures that riders are well-prepared for any mechanical issues they might encounter while on the trail.

Suspension And Flip Chip

As with the latest versions of the Scott Spark and Genius, the Ransom has a fully internal rear shock, borrowing technology from Scott's sister company, Bold Cycles. This keeps the shock away from dirt and debris, which can increase the life of the shock and the mounting hardware.

Of course, mounting the shock internally makes it more difficult to set up, so an external sag indicator mounted around the bottom bracket pivot allows riders to easily dial in their desired amount of sag.

A chainstay mounted flip chip allows riders to switch between a mullet 27.5" rear wheel or a full 29" wheel setup. Along with the angle adjust headset, this allows an unrivalled amount of adjustability to perfectly tailor the bike to a rider's preferences and the terrain.

The most striking feature of the new Scott Ransom has to be the 6-bar linkage suspension design. The design of the Ransom's suspension ensures an efficient pedaling platform, exceptional braking grip, and substantial support during intense riding.

In suspension design, balance is crucial. Typically, designers must negotiate between Leverage Ratio, Anti Squat, and Anti Rise, and their implications on the bike's frame structure and layout. The introduction of the 6-bar linkage in the Ransom's design provides the flexibility to fine-tune each aspect of the suspension independently. This means less compromise and more precise control over the balance. By viewing the bike as an integrated system, this versatility enables the engineering of an optimal balance between suspension performance, efficient load distribution, and a streamlined frame layout.
