Superstretch overshoes don't need Velcro or zip closures. You simply pull them over your racing shoes and they stretch into place. That way, there's no excess fabric to flap around. The result: maximum protection against the wind: minimum wind turbulence. The close fit also prevents rubbing against the crank arms, as can happen when you wear looser-fitting overshoes.
